Vintage Kimono 01 by hanatsukuri Vintage Kimono 01 by hanatsukuri
I made this hair piece with vintage kimono fabric. ♥ I matched the pale orange with some vermillion red (more kimono remnants!), and it matched my model friend's dress SO well.

I love making designs like these because there can be only one, since the fabric is vintage (and I rarely have a lot of the fabric).

I'm sorry to ask this but, I'm making kanzashi as a gift to a Japanese friend of mine and I don't want it to look cheap and poor looking.. How do make the back of the kanzashi look good?

According to my experience:
- Use glue to cover the flower base with fabric
- Use proper thread to tie the wires together
- Use pliers to bend the wire

But I think what matter the most is the labor and heart you pour into your work. Good luck on your present ヽ(*゚ー゚*)ノ

Sorry, I don't make tutorials (no time!). :(

Practice and take your time and I'm sure it'll turn out fine. If it's small enough, bobby pins are easy. Smallish single flowers are also easy to stick on clips.

This is so pretty--it hints at the lovely pattern the kimono originally had. :D

oh, I dunno how I come up with the designs. Just like any other artist, I guess?

But anyway, I use silk squares (with glue) for this technique. Each petal is hand-folded (kinda like origami) and then I arrange each petal into a flower. it takes forever, but it's pretty! especially when I can give new life to kimono. :D

Sorry, bad phrasing on my part >_<
Is the "string" that you used for the falls wire, yarn, waxed linen,...?

:D you can use anything you like! Something not too heavy, obviously, and I recommend ironing it first. Too weak (embroidery thread, for example?) is probably no good either (unless it's a doll piece), but there's not a single string you can use. Remember: iron!!

:XD: (waxed linen...sounds nice. I have never used it, but it sounds really durable. wire sounds...difficult...and like it would prick my fingers...)
